4-day work week explored
Leelanau County offices could be open for only four days per week if the county Board of Commissioners accepts a proposal from a committee of county department heads and employees.
At its executive committee meeting Tuesday morning, the county board heard about “flexible work option” and “compressed work week” proposals that the board directed department heads to consider following the board’s June 10 executive committee meeting.
The head of the county’s Planning and Community Development department, Trudy Galla, said the committee did not consider “flex-place” proposals that would allow workers to work from home or “telecommute” from other places; nor did they look at any “job-sharing” proposals.
But, she said, the committee did find that the county might save a considerable amount of money in energy costs if the normal 35-hour work week was compressed into four longer days instead of five shorter ones.
